Tribute to Rudolf Firkušný: Gala Concert with Pianist Yefim Bronfman

A very special Gala Concert and Reception honoring the world-renowned Czech-born pianist Rudolf Firkušný (1912-1994).

Over 130 guests of the Dvořák American Heritage Association gathered to celebrate the life, artistry, and rich legacy of the preeminent Czech American pianist Rudolf Firkušný at Bohemian National Hall. The internationally acclaimed pianist Yefim Bronfman, a former student of Firkušný at the Juilliard School, brilliantly performed works by Brahms and Prokofiev, inaugurating the magnificent Steinway piano recently acquired by the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association. DAHA President Susan Lucak moderated an insightful pre-concert conversation about Firkušný’s remarkable journey and contributions, from his study as a child with Leoš Janáček to his triumphant return to Prague after many years of exile in 1990. In attendance were the families of Rudolf Firkušný and Tomaš Garrigue Masaryk, who had supported the young pianist with a stipend in 1920s Czechoslovakia. The guests gathered after the performance for a festive toast marking the honored pianist’s 114th birthday.
