The Aaron Copland School of Music Orchestra, under the direction of Maurice Peress, will perform works by Antonín Dvořák and George Gershwin, exploring the Czech composer and his American legacy. The program combines Dvořák’s Carnival Overture and his American masterwork, the Symphony #9 in E minor, “From the New World,” with his “grand-student” George Gershwin’s American in Paris.  Maestro Peress is both a conductor and scholar -- his book Dvořák to Duke Ellington (Oxford University Press, 2004) is still in print — and he brings American insights into his “New World” performance.
